Pair Domino: Everything You Need to Know to Play and Win
Pair domino is more than a board game — it's an exercise in reading, silent strategy, and teamwork. Four players, two pairs, 28 tiles. Here's everything from the very beginning.
The Tiles and the Deal
Played with a standard 28-tile set, from the double-blank (0/0) to the double-six (6/6). Each player receives 7 tiles. Partners sit across from each other.
If a player receives more than 4 doubles at the start, many variants allow requesting a re-deal.
How Does the Game Start?
In the first round, whoever has the double-six (6/6) opens. In subsequent rounds, the turn passes to the player to the right of whoever opened, who may place any tile. Play advances counter-clockwise.
How to Play
Each player places a tile at one of the two open ends of the chain, matching the dots. Doubles go perpendicular to the chain. If you can't play: you pass.
When Does a Round End?
Domino (going out): A player places their last tile. Their team wins and scores the total points of the opponents' remaining tiles.
Block / Tranque: All players pass consecutively. The pair with fewer points in hand wins.
Key Strategy
| Situation | What to Do | | --- | --- | | You have many doubles | Play them early | | Your partner passes on a number | Don't open it | | The opponent always plays the same number | Close it | | Few points in hand and the game is blocking | Go for the close | | Heavy tiles and you're losing | Shed them first |
